Report: Two Heavy Metal Fans Accused In Columbine-Like Plot

Two Southeast Louisiana heavy metal fans (photos) were arrested Monday (Jan. 12) on charges of terrorizing for what detectives say was a plan to re-create the bloody massacre at Columbine High School in Littleton, Colo., according to the Associated Press.

Dutchtown High School students Christopher Levins, 17, of Prairieville and Addam Sinclair, 19, of Geismar each was booked on one count of terrorizing, a felony punishable with up to 15 years in prison, said Sheriff Jeff Wiley of Ascension Parish, a rural and suburban area east of Baton Rouge. The two remained in jail Tuesday.

The investigation started Friday with an anonymous call to the school indicating some kind of disturbance involving weapons was being planned on the campus, Lt. Kevin Hanna, the chief investigator, said. "During the weekend, we came up with information that told us this was way beyond gossip and there was credibility with the threat," Wiley said.

Warrants were issued for detectives to search the school lockers, book bags, computers and homes of Levins and Sinclair on Monday. Once detectives began looking through the students' homes and personal belongings, deputies realized the gravity of their plan, Hanna and Wiley said.

The two apparently were obsessed with the April 20, 1999, school shootings in Littleton, Colo.

Deputies found poems by the pair about being bullied, drawings and English papers written for school about the Columbine shootings, written histories of what happened at Columbine.

In the Twin Lakes trailer park where Sinclair lives, acquaintances described the sophomore as a talented artist who won art competitions in middle school before growing into a high school loner, the Times Picayune reports. Around the neighborhood he was known for his black trench coat and combat boots that had the numbers "666" written in red on the side.

"The music he listened to — it was like he worshipped the devil," said Darryl Dean, 17, a Dutchtown freshman who said he had known Sinclair for five years. But Dean said he found Sinclair to be friendly and harmless.

"I think he just did it (the clothes) for attention, because Addam liked that kind of attention," Dean said.

Dean said Levins and Sinclair became friends through their shared interest in heavy metal music but that the students had few other friends at the school. Read more.
